The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) initiated the National Digital Library of India (NDL India) pilot project under the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Its goal is to establish a virtual repository of learning resources with a unified search feature. The platform employs filtered and federated searching, streamlining the search process for learners to find resources efficiently.
NDL India is designed to accommodate content in multiple languages and offers interface support for various Indian languages. It aims to cater to all academic levels, including researchers and lifelong learners, across disciplines, accessible through various devices. The platform also caters to differently-abled learners. Its purpose includes aiding students in entrance and competitive exam preparation, facilitating global learning, and enabling researchers to explore interconnected information from multiple sources.
The pilot project is crafting a scalable framework in terms of content volume and diversity, intending to serve learners across all disciplines and levels. The development is taking place at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
