Internal Faculty Seminar by the School of Law

An Internal Faculty Seminar was organized by the School of Law on 31/05/2021. Ms. Garima Trivedi, Assistant Professor, School of law had a presentation on the topic “Right to be Forgotten: Changing Dimensions of Legal Rights in Digitalized World.”

She discussed that one of the concerns of living in the digitalized world is the problem of protection of personal data and information. The protection of personal data is inextricably linked with privacy. The rule of privacy is encapsulated in right to be left alone. The current data protection regime in India does not recognize an individual’s ‘Right to be Forgotten’. As the ‘Right to be Forgotten’ is not a recognized right in India she discussed some of the landmark judgements like ,Google Spain SL, Google Inc. v. Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, Mario Costeja González (ILEC 060 (CJEU 2014) Dharmaraj Bhanushankar Dave v. State of Gujarat (2015 SCC OnLine Guj 2019), Vasunathan v. The Registrar General, High Court of Karnataka (2017 SCC OnLine Kar 424), which have recognized right to be forgotten as an inherent aspect of the Right to privacy.
